How would rather call sites like Facebook?

Is it most correct to call it as a "social networking WEBSITE?"
Or should it be a "social networking PLATFORM" (like a computing platform that includes software frameworks)instead?
I know that I've been persnickety with the use of words,
it's just that I don't want to make any more wrong/clumsy/rare vocabulary mistakes anymore.
I hope you understand, thank you.
