How words mean what they mean?

I find an interesting phenomenon in language learning -- We have some words literally meaning the same thing in different language but they have a totally different way of conveying the meaning. Take the word "shlt" for example, it just means waste. The Chinese equivalent ? isn't in any way as vulgar or rude as the English word "shlt"(Sorry I have to edit it and purposely misspell it. Because it just got *ed). Even though they literally mean the same thing, we use it to convey totally different meanings. I find it interesting that the word "horny" gets filtered when I google it if the safe search mode is on. I still don't get it. The Chinese equivalent sounds just fine to me. I can even say it to my mom and dad and it's going to be OK. Why is this word often viewed so inappropriate in English?

I assume the first word is "s**t". This is a vulgar word, but there are other words that convey the same meaning in a non-vulgar way. "poo" is a common informal word (can sound a bit childish).
