Hi Snake: If this is your assignment, how would you begin?
If it were my assignment, I would do a mind-mapping exercise.
I'd start with a blank piece of paper, write phrases of what I see, and what they remind me of. Then I draw balloons around the phrases, and connect them together with lines. By the lines, I write what the relationship is. I repeat the above exercise, until I am out of ideas. Then I get a new sheet of paper and redraw and organize all the balloons so that not many lines cross each other. There will be a "main balloon" at the center - the one with the most lines connected to it. The phrase inside the center balloon is a good starting topic.
There are books on the subject of mind-mapping, and software (some free). I cannot endorse any specific resource, but I use it often on paper for brainstorming.

If this is my assignment, i may start such as "As vividly depicted in the picture above,..... " or " Vividly shown above is....."

I don't know if it is a genuine or usual expression in english writting. Fouthermore, because it is one part of an entrance examination for master's degree, many reference books start like this.This is called "model". You read them and you will find them farfetched. Sometimes you write an essay and you find there is nothing concrete except some very long sentences with so many adjectives, adverbs,clauses, it just doesn't make much sense. I'm not good at writting and i hope i can write some real and fluent English some day.

I hardly ever start an essay by writing the first sentence. That would be like getting in my car and driving without having any idea about where I am going, why I am going, how I will get there, or what I need to take with me.
In good essay writing, you need some idea about what your topic is, and its purpose. Will you be writing the essay to describe something, to instruct someone, or to convince the readers of some thesis statement? What points do you want to make? Do you want the reader to realize how you feel about the subject, or make it just a factual report? When someone starts to read your essay, will they feel like they know what you are writing about, and the general direction you are going? When the reader finishes reading it, will they feel that the flow of ideas is logical, even though they might not agree with your points?
If you start with "As vividly depicted...", I, as the reader, have no clue as to where you are going.
A Master's degree is very much like writing a big essay, where the point is to add a very small bit to the world's body of knowledge on the subject.
Mind mapping is a good technique to get over writer's block.
