How we talk about people over 50 years old

When I was writing an essay about whether authorities should change the retirement age depending on the type of profession, I wrote the following sentence. Through the bold phrases, what I wanted to express was people who are over 50 years old. I would really appreciate it if someone could let me know whether the usages are acceptable or not in terms of grammar. Furthermore, please give me any other alternative ways to indicate people over 50.
