How vs. what

Hi,

Could you tell me how acceptable the following sentences are?

(1) What do you think of that movie?

(2) How do you think of that movie? (intended to mean the same as (1))

(3) How is the movie thought of by Americans?

(4) What is the movie thought of by Americans? (intended to mean the same as (3))

Thank you in advance.

No probs. (1) and (2) are both perfectly good sentences, but they don't mean the same thing as each other. Syntactically, sentence (1) asks a question to which the answer is expected to be be a clause or a sentence.
