How to write checks?

Hello,

I am new to this forum! My language is English only. How would everyone write checks to pay bills via US mail?

On the upper righthand corner of the check, in the blank space for the date, write the date, for example: Dec. 3, 2014.

On the "Pay to" blank line, write in who the check is to, for example: New York Electric Co.

To the right of the "Pay to" line is a space for the amount. Write in the amount of the check here, for example: 59.15.

On the next blank line, write in the

On this line to write in longhand, if the cents are anywhere from 1 cent to 9 cents, should it be and 01/100? Or should it be and 1/100?
