How to write an email to a friend's friend?

I am now applying to graduate schools in the US. My cousin studies in NYU, and he has an American friend Daniel who is in the college I want to apply to. Daniel provided some links for me via my cousin, and he told my cousin that I could send an email to him if there is any question. How can I start this email? And with what theme?
