How to write age

How do I write age? is this correct?

"I have worked as a care assistant in a kindergarten for 3 to 6 year old children."

Top answer

I would hyphenate heavily: 'for 3- to 6-year-old children'. If you don't like those hyphens, you could rephrase as 'for children 3 to 6 years old'.
