How to write a summery?

hi,

i have a question. our teacher told us to write a summery of a newspaper article and to use the present tense whenever possible. the article is about a boy who was 12 when he impregnated a girl. the problem is that in the article the boy talks about things that happened in the past.

now i am really confused and i do not know which tense to use.

this is an abstract of the article:

Baby-faced Alfie became a father four days ago then his girlfriend Chantelle gave birth to their daughter. He told how he and Chantelle decided against abortion after discovering she was pregnant. "We wanted the baby but we were worried how people would react." They kept it a secret until Chantell's mum became suspicious about her weight gain. Chantel and their daughter were released from hospital yesterday. She lives at her parents house. Alfie is allowed to stay the night at her house...
