A report is an account of an event or situation. It is a systematic presentation of facts about a particular problem, event, or situation. A report is usually based on the observation and analysis of facts, and it serves the purpose of providing information for decision making and follow-up actions. When writing a report, you need to find out whether you’re required to write a formal or an informal report. A formal report is required to be presented as an official document, whereas an informal report is not required as an official document. An informal report is like giving an account of an incident to people who are familiar to you, such as friends or relatives.
A report begins with a title or heading. This is followed by the introduction (paragraph 1), the body of the report (paragraphs 2, 3, 4…), and then the conclusion (the last paragraph).
