How to use "train"

Hi dear all,

I was wondering if "train sb in sth" is correct.
For example, if I wanna say that I taught my team about how to play soccer, can I use"I trained my team in soccer (playing)"? Or is there a better way to say this?

Thanks a lot!

It is grammatically correct, but you would not use it that way. It is more about teaching a specific skill, such as maybe a type of kick, or how to play the guitar, or ballet. "Soccer" is too general.

  • You would "train" someone in a more specialized skill.
  • It depends on the situation, but if you are specifically talking about teaching someone how to play soccer, you would use "taught" just like you do in your question.
