How to use "the world"

In the following context, which use of "the world"
rings true to your ear? Are they all acceptable?

This is a general statement about the occasion
on which you get lost.

When you get lost in a place you don't know
very well, you may get scared, not knowing whether
you will be able to go back to ( ).

This is the one you want. In my opinion it's definitely the best. 4 isn't too bad. 6 doesn't work. The first three might be better with "your" instead of "the", but even so, they aren't as idiomatic as 5.
