How to use the word "contemplative"

One of my friends is a deep thinker. He usually thinks deeply about certain subjects, such as how to live a good life, how to be a better person, etc. I really like to use the word contemplative to describe him. My question is that can I say "he is very contemplative"?

Many thanks in advance!
