How to use the particule "off"?

Hello everybody!

there is something unclear when i speak or write in English! I not sure about the position of "off" in sentenses.

E.g. do i have to say "turn off the light", or "turn the light off "?

The same about "I take off my shoes" or "I take my shoes off", and so

Thanks for your help.

David4eng The same about "I take off my shoes" or "I take my shoes off" Both are correct. If the object is very short, a pronoun for example, it must follow the verb: Take it off! (Not: Take off it!
