How to use 'sure'

Could you help me get this right?

1. He is sure of passing the exam.

2. He is sure to pass the exam.

In the sentences above, in my understanding,

1. means: He is sure that he will pass the exam.

2. means: The speaker of 2 is sure that he will pass the exam.

Then, what about the following case where the subject is both 'I' ?

1. I am sure of passing the exam.

2. I am sure to pass the exam.

Can they be used interchangeably?
