How to use scorn, mock, deride, ...

Hello,

Would you be so nice to suggest the best translation of the French verb "mépriser". I found a couple of possible translation as "scorn", "mock" but I don't know how to use them in context. I mean in French you say "mepriser quelqu'un" and I don't find the equivalent "scorn somebody" to be very usual. I guess there is another way to say it.

Thanks,
Stephan.

You could keep "contempt" if you said it this way: He feels contempt for Jack. " He despises Jack.

You could keep "contempt" if you said it this way:

He feels contempt for Jack.

Or you could use a related verb, such as "despise."

He despises Jack.
