How to use invest' correctly?

I wrote following sentence while I was writing an essay. However, I'm not sure about usage of "invest" and "providing" in the following sentence, because I usually use nouns after "invest on" phrase. Therefore, please someone tell me whether is following sentence grammatically correct and is it natural.


Therefore, if governments took such actions, they would have to invest an astronomical amount of money on providing their citizens with the required infrastructure.
