How do you use 'in such a way that' in a sentence correctly? Is it not something that is said?

Are 'so that' and 'in such a way that' interchangeable?

Would you say 'in such a way that' or 'in such a way so that'?

Are any of these correct?

He looked at me in such a way that I quickly became afraid of him.

He looked at me so that I quickly became afraid of him. (You can see that the phrases are not interchangeable.)
