How to use effort in a sentence.

Whether you succeed or not depends not so much on your talents as on your effort(s).

I know that effort is usually used as uncountable except on rare occasions, but in this particular example, is it better to use 'efforts' since the word talent is used as countable?

I use effort in the plural, and would use the plural form in your sentence. Effort as singular means one instance. You need to put more effort into your studies.
