How to use comma properly

In the two sentences below, am I using the comma right?

That's so cute, I would have gotten it.

I saw her smile, believed it was real.

thanks

I don't think I'd use a comma in the first sentence. The second sentence does not seem to have a formally correct structure. " However, your version is possible in a kind of abbreviated or racy style of English, in which case the comma seems appropriate.

The second sentence does not seem to have a formally correct structure. I assume you mean, in full, "I saw her smile and (I) believed it was real." However, your version is possible in a kind of abbreviated or racy style of English, in which case the comma seems appropriate.
