How to use an if sentence to express a wish?

Imagine I've given an assignment to someone and would like them to finish it by next week. A minor delay would be acceptable, though. How do I let them know in a polite way?

1. It will be great if the assignment is finished by next week.
2. It would be great if the assignment were finished by next week.
3. It would be great if the assignment was finished by next week.

I assume option 2 and 3 are wrong - but doesn't option 1 sound a little harsh? Also, are there commas missing in the sentences?

Not at all. You are oversensitive to grammar points that native speakers care little about. All 3 are reasonable alternatives, but none sounds teacherly. I would expect so
