How to understand parts?
Hi. In a book titled How to be a Christian without being religious by Fritz Ridenour, published by Regal Books, in page 59, I saw this paragraph:
So Paul says that we should "reckon" (look upon) our old sinful nature as dead. In other words, we really believe that "sin's fangs have been pulled" and that we are alive to God, alert to Him, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Question: Would you say the part "alert to Him" (in commas) is correct grammatically since this is like talking to us, not in the style of a master's thesis or doctoral thesis?
Another question not related to the above quoted content: Do you think this comma use is correct?
The trouble is, nothing much will do either.
