How to understand "bring the water to the boil"

Dear All,

i'm trying to understand this kind of sentence "bring the water to the boil"

First time I was thought that that means someone ask to bring the water because he want to boil the water.

But I've got a some different explanation about that sentence.

That means keep that water until that water boil.

So I want to know not only "bring" what kind words or sentences have the same usage as "bring".
