How to thank someone for telling you "Hi" for someone else?

just to reiterate, say someone tells you "hey I saw jack & jil yesterday and they said hi to (saluted) you and said very nice things about you".

Question 1: I want to thank this person for telling me that. what is the common way to reply to this?
Would this be too formal or maybe even incorrect: "thanks for extending their salutation to me".

Question 2: what would be the right situation to use each of these "they said hi" and "they saluted you".

thanks in advance

Hi,

This is rather more formal.

A. "I saw Jack and Jill yesterday. They asked me to give you their best wishes, and complimented you."

B. "Thank you for telling me. That was nice of them."
