How to teach difference between like & prefer?

Hello!

I'm wondering if anyone can share a quick and simple way to help children (age 8-12) learn the difference between "I like..." and "I prefer..."?

This is just a small part of a larger lesson.

Thank you!!

What springs to mind is simply to present the children with a single item-- a banana, say-- and ask whether they like bananas. Then present another item-- an apple-- do they like apples? -- present both items to see which they prefer .

When I teach children (actually people of all ages) I find that repetition is key. You need to know your audience and kind of predict what they will "like" and out of what they like you need to guess what they would "prefer". So you could discuss animals for p
