how to take notes with short forms?

When taking notes while listening, we are advised to take notes with short forms of words. However, I am not a native English speaker so I find it take me much more time to think how to write a word in short form. Therefor, I often lack of time when taking notes. Is there any way to practise to write English short-form words without hestitation?

You don't have to take notes in English. There is only one rule: use things which will enable you to remember what you want to remember. Your notes may be a word, a phrase, a sign or a picture.
