How to structure these sentences?

How should I construct these sentences?

- The children did not cry nor [try/tried] to escape.

- She only chuckles, not [laughs/laugh].

- He either does nothing or [cries/cry] over his misery.

- Candy neither looked at him nor [answered/answer].

I fail to understand which verbs are parallel to which, and it's difficult for me to explain what I don't get. Could someone please provide me with explanations for parallel constructions?
