how to spell

Could I ask a question, please?
When I want to ask someone to spell a word for me, is it impolite if I say "How do you spell ~"?
Is it more polite to say "How do we spell ~?"

When a teacher wants her students to spell some word, say "robot",
what does the teacher say? Is it "How do we spell robot?" or "How do you spell robot?"

Actually, 'we' sounds a little pompous to me. 'You' is much more common and natural, or " How is ____ spelled? ".

"How do you spell _____?" is fine. "How do we spell ____ ?" is okay for a teacher to say to young children, say, up to the age of about six. Over the age of six it would sound condescending.
