How to say this properly?

I want to say "I was thinking about starting to use it, even before unlocking, as I like to use the iphone as a personal digital assistant more than I like to use it as a phone."

Is this correct?

Best,
Charles.

Hi,

It sounds OK.

Shouldn't there be 'it' after 'unlocking'?

That's what I was thinking. Emotion: thinking

Hi,

Yes.

Unless 'unlocking' is some kind of phone jargon that does not need an article.

That's what I assumed, since I don't really know what it means.

I'm not familiar with iphones either. Can someone explain what it means to unlock a phone?

So it's safe to say the "it" is not necessary.

Isn't the iphone network/carrier specific?
(Obviously, I don't have one.)
