With regard to "It is," it is fine. There is nothing wrong with it is. We native speakers use those two words very frequently. It is not "child like."

It is raining outside.

It is hot in here.

It is cold.

It is good to study at night when it is quiet. (double it is)

We use those words so often that we don't even think about it.
