if some one beside you get a phone call and he/she was not his/her desk. when he/she returns back, then how should we say that he got a call in proper english.

you got a call from xxx? or

some one phoned you ? or

some one gave you a call? or

you got a phone call from Mr xxx?

some one gave you a call? makes the call sound unimportant or

you got a phone call from Mr ***? yes

You had a call.

You had a call from Fred Smith.

Fred Smith called you.

You need to call Fred.
