"How to say"?

So my friend and I were watching videos when one of the interviewee (non-native English speaker) said "...gradually the standard will become more...how to say...unified, so that we can..." is the way of using "how to say" in this sentence correct? Because it sounds to me that only non-native English speaker would say so... many thanks!
