0 One thing I'd like to point out about the phrase "an English teacher" -- usually this is what we say to mean a person who teaches English (not necessarily ESL), but it could also mean "a teacher who is English." If it means "someone who teaches English," the stress is on the word "English," but if you mean "a teacher who happens to be English" you would put equal stress on both words. Obviou

0 I'm not Clive, but I do agree with you. 02br
00I'm Dutch, but I teach the English language. So if I say 'I'm an English teacher', I'd lie. When I say 'I'm a teacher of English', it's obvious that I teach English, without saying where I'm from. 02br

00The best way of telling them I'm from Holland and I teach English is saying 'I'm a Dutch teacher of English

0 Hi guys, 02br
00Sure, I agree with both of you about the ambiguity built into 'I'm an English teacher'. 02br

00Vince, I don't think a native speaker would tend to say ''I'm a teacher of English". It sounds a little formal. In my opinion, we'd more often say something like 'I teach English'. 02br
