the dictionaries? You can search with Google... well, I'll give you these links. I'm including Cambridge Dictionaries too, even though I don't use them. But I know they are online:

He was (as) happy as a king. (equality of happiness)

Probably not "adjective + like"
He was happy like a king. (similar to a king)

But "verb + like": He [behaved / acted] like a king.

In either case, I don't find the comparison exactly right. I suspect there are a few unhappy kings here and there.
