How to Read - 50p?

How to read this - 'A 50p piece'? Is it the usual, but sounding odd to me, 'A 50-penny piece' or rather 'A 50-pence piece'?

Top answer

In British English, many people say 'A fifty- pee piece'. This annoys those of us who prefer 'a fifty- pence piece'. I never hear 'a fifty- penny piece'.
