They certainly are not. There's a big difference between the two results with and without them.

I don't think the brackets make a difference. I think it comes out to be 90.3 either way.

You are supposed to multiply and divide, then add and subtract.
"Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally" (parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction)
