How to properly say: "i wish i saw you there before you signed off"

"Wish i could have caught you still on"

or

"Wish i had caught you still on"

Is there even a difference? How do english speakers interpret the two?

The main idea is "i wish i sawyou still on, before you signed off."

Please help. Thanks in advance.

I think there is a tiny difference. It is something like 'I wish I had done it' and 'I wish I could have done it'.
