Speech & Pronunciation

How to pronounce words start with "dr" and "tr"?

Words begins with dr:
Driver, Drawer, drastic, Dream
Words begins with tr:
Trainer, trial, transmit
I guess they're pronounced like this:
tr: something between "tr" and "chr". ----------> Trainer: chrainer
dr: something between "dr" and "jr". -----------> Driver: jriver

Top answer

Alex John tr: something between "tr" and "chr". ----------> Trainer: chrainer The 't' is strongly aspirated in initial 'tr'. That doesn't make it 'ch' even though some people claim to hear it as a 'ch' sound.

  • Alex John tr: something between "tr" and "chr".
  • ----------> Trainer: chrainer The 't' is strongly aspirated in initial 'tr'.
  • That doesn't make it 'ch' even though some people claim to hear it as a 'ch' sound.
  • Alex John dr: something between "dr" and "jr".
  • -----------> Driver: jriver Voiced consonants can't be aspirated, so the effect of a 'j' is very weak in this case.
