The pronounciation is more like

SPOOT-nick.

Just like in Russian, Vladimir is pronounced

vla-DEE-meer

Dear friends,

both pronunciations are correct. At least, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, which gives

['sp?tn?k, 'sp?t-]

with ['sp?tn?k] being the dominant pronunciation which more precisely imitates the way it is pronounced in the source language (Russian). Personally, I am in favour of /?/ rather than /?/.

In my opinion, Sput rhymes with put.

It's not pronounced like that! It's Sp-ooo-tnik as in spoon. I'm Russian so it's the right way just fyi

The correct pronunciation in Russian is not the correct pronunciation in English.
