How to pronounce "ch"

I was wondering what are the rules for pronouncing the letters "ch". When is it pronounces as "ch" and when - as "k"(as in chemistry).

Thanks in advance.

I am afraid you will need to check the pronunciation in the dictionary... Chic is pronounced with SH for example. But once you know enough words, you can usually recognize common roots and guess the pronunciation.

You may have to find a Greek forum.

There is no "CH" as such in Greek because Greek doesn't use Roman letters. You are probably referring to the Greek letter we call "Chi". It looks like a Roman X. You can find it on the chart on this site:

English has been in contact with many other languages over the centuries and subsequently many words are 'borrowed' .

Aside from CH as in choose, CH is commonly pronounced two other ways:

In words with French origin, CH is often pronounced SH - as in chef, chivalry, chauffeur.
In words with Greek origin, CH is often pronounce as K - as in architect, character etc.
