How to place adjunct phrases?

Hi guys.
Can anyone please tell me how to place adjunct phrases and post modifier phrases? Which one should we put first?
For example:
1. ''Everyone was sad last year that Sam was drowned.''
2. ''Everyone was sad that Sam was drowned last year.''

Top answer

jasonkhlim 1. '' They were sad last year. They might not be sad now.

  • jasonkhlim 1.
  • '' They were sad last year.
  • They might not be sad now.
  • The placement is still awkward.
  • '' jasonkhlim 2.
