How to make a doctor's appointment and ask about...

Hi all

Besides 'Could I make an appointment with Dr ABC please?', what are the other ways you could make an appointment with your doctor?

Also, how do you go about asking when the doctor is avaible at a specific time? Do we say 'Is there a timeslot around 3 next Monday?' ?

Thank you

Hello PBF,

You could say:

1. Could you tell me when Dr A is available?

2. I'd like to make an appointment with Dr A, please.

For a specific time, you could say:

3. Could I make an appointment with Dr A for Wednesday at 3, please?

(I hope this advice does not come too late.)

Thanks for replying MrP. Your advice didn't come too late. I just didn't want to sound like a broken record everytime I ring up the doctor's.

Hello PB,

1. What times are available on Wednesday?

— yes, that would be fine.

2. timeslot

— possibly not entirely suited to the context; it sounds more like something you would hear in an office.

(I hope you don't have to make too many visits.)

Best wishes,

Touch wood I don't have to make too many visits to the doctor's. I was helping out at this homeless referral centre a while ago and sometimes you had to help people make doctor's appointments. The same receptionist usually picks up the phone and I thought I should learn more ways to make appointments. Just to sound a tad more interesting.

Glad to hear it!
PeaceblinkfriendWhat could you say if you wanted to politely check how far behind schedule the doctor is with the patients?
You could say e.g. "Are the appointments running on time at the moment, or will there be a wait?"

I see. Thanks again MrP.
