How to learn spelling?

I'm sorry if this is not the right section for my question. I'm new here and I know that spelling technically is not grammar, but I looked over the website and I couldn't find a better place than here. Sorry again if I'm in the wrong place.

I'm an advanced English speaker; however, my spelling is really embarrassing (I looked this up!) because I didn't learn English in school, I'm having problems writing sentences correctly right now.

What is the best way to learn spelling for advanced speakers?
Is spelling rules useful?
Can you recommend websites or services that teach spelling?

Thanks

Hi,
I don't know if there is any affective method that can really help people with spelling. I am not a native speaker , but the way I learned how to spell was by pronouncing the word out loud as it is spelled, and by prefix / subfix; i.e. sub, ter ra'-nean. It doesn't work 100% but it gets me 85% of the time correct. Just my experience.....
