I think I do not to many words when I read something in english. So therefore I am asking you to give me some advice about learning a lot of words fastly.

Hello Diddy

If you have a cassette recorder, make a list of any words you have to look up, when you read a book or newspaper or website, and then record yourself saying them. You can then play back the tape on your Walkman when you're travelling, or about to go to sleep.

PS: You have to allow a little time for answers – 50 minutes isn't that long to wait!

Hi there Diddy,

there are plethera of techniques in this regard. one I can whole-heartedly recommend for you is extracting the new words, putting them down onto small slips of paper in the context of the sentence, and underlined. In order not to forget the underlined vocabs, note down their definitions at the back of the paper and review `em on and on and here and there.

You can write out all the unknown words, find out their meaning and then write a story of your own using these words in context. It is much easier to remember sensible sentences than individual words without any context.

However, much depends on the person - I've heard that some guy managed to learn German by memorising 10 dictionary entries every day...

If you want to learn words with a various meanings then use the dictionary and look up 10 random words per weekday, and 30 on weekends, thats about 4680 words per year. The con's are this takes about 20 minutes per day and you usually forget about 1000-3000 a year.

If You aren't learning too many words, then make a story out of them. For example...
I was trying to learn french irregular past tense verbs so ....

bu-drank
Vu-saw
Connu-knew (person)
Voulu-wanted
Lu-Read
Or something like that .. It went like this:

I knew someone in a connu so i went to the lu and read. I then got some water but someone went BU so i wan
