I agree with both of you that reading is an important source of knowledge, and gaining mor evocabulary. But, I also think that it is not enough. A language learner should practice what vocabulary s/he has learnt through reading or listening.

I speak out of experience. I read a lot, but I find myself not memorize all teh words I came across whi

there is no shortcut for vocabulary too all you need to do is read variety of material with words and try to prepare flash cards and use them.
