Hi Susan, Unfortunately there is no substitute for good grammar. Without good grammar, or reasonably good grammar, your sentences may take on a completely different meaning to the one you intended. If you do not like grammar books you could try learning 'parrot fashion', that is, listening and repeating things so many times that it becomes automatic.

  • One supplier of such material is the 'Pimsleur' company, and I am sure there are many others.
  • One benefit of learning a language this way is that it should also help to improve your pronunciation.

I know reading is extremely important, but who would deny that speaking is such a difficult skill and you need to practise it a lot to be fluent. Wouldn't you agree?

Susan, how do you get your speaking so well without good grammar? Do the others understand you clealy? My grammar is better than speaking and I studied it during school. Now I'm eager to promote my speaking.

Listening is also such an important skill, you can practise it by listening to songs, interviews, radio, or watching tv.

i agree with you in some aspects.

but in my opinion, after you read more, got more vocabularies and expressions, your oral would be much better. be frankly,i think learning oral is less difficult than learning grammar.

for oral , you need to practice it more get more excellent expressions from the others ,jut try your best to express what you imagined and what you thought, and

Susan,

I understand the frustration you are feeling. Your language, Chinese, is what linguists call an "isolating language". All information, such as the time an action occurred, is conveyed by the choice and order of words in a sentence. There are no verb tenses. There are no plurals. In fact, individual words are never altered:

He went there yesterday to buy eggs. (English)

Our verbal english is not that accurate and we stammer in between when we speak in English. This is creating a big problem when we are sitting for call centre interviews as they need good command over english and we are lacking it. what should we do? Please help us to improve it.
