How to give a polite title for a letter to a professor about some of the classmates wearing strong perfume in the class

Hi teachers,

I am currently attending a class in which some of the classmates that are wearing very strong perfume in such a closed quarters. I'm having nausea and headache while attending the class. And it'd be very impolite to wear a muzzle or have your hand cover your nose thru the whole class. And it's a three-hour-class. The lecturer once joked about if some of us drank a whole bottle of X X perfume.

Please help correct my letter as below. Thanks

Email subject header: Trouble with pungent perfume in class.

Dear Miss House, (Should I call her Felice?)

I am one of your students in your 19th Century Art and Crafts design class B in the evening. I'm writing to you, which is not a complain letter, but simply to let you know I am having trouble concentrating in class because there's been a very strong perfume some of our classmates wearing, which have caused a distraction. I've developed throbbing headache and nausea since the class began last month. (Should I use present perfect here?, in fact the only time I develop these sickness is during the class.) I had never had any allergy to perfume prior to this class.

I would appreciate if you will look into this matter. Thank you very much.

Sincerely yours,

Tina Choi

Hi Goodman,

This is great.

What about my subject header: Trouble with pungent perfume in class. Does it sound impolite, too forceful?

Thanks

There are words which carry positive and respectively negative cannotatations. Odor is negative but Scent and aroma are positive. Both have something to do with how our nose interprets and processes the smell.

Your assessment is correct. Pungent - being used as a header could trigger reactions.

But I feel using it in the body of the letter could affectively illustrate the point

Dear Miss House, (Should I call her Felice?) Address her as you would in class, if you want to be informal. Address her as Miss House if you want to be formal.

Hi AlpheccaStars,

Thank you for your correction and help.

Miss House asks us to call her Felice, but in my culture we never call our teacher first name. If you were my teacher, would this seem like the student is complaining something which is small?

Thank you.

Tina:
I cannot answer you for sure, because our cultures are different. In our schools, the health of everyone is very important. This would not be a small complaint, but a major one.
Your teacher sounds very sympathetic. I am sure she would help you if you were suffering from being in her class. Your condition can get worse, too, so it is best to deal with it as soon as possible.
