To give you an accurate read on the flow of your research article, we'll need more than a sentence fragment. We may fix something in the first part of your sentence, for example, and spoil something in the last part that you haven't even showed us. And what have you said before this sentence that would make your reader think that you're talking only about video games?

  • As an isolated fragment, I don't see any reason to add 'not just video games'.
  • All games is all games.

All games, not just video games, that have an educational purpose have always been a large promoter of interest throughout history.

To me, it feels kind of awkward.

Have you tried my suggestion?

All games that have an educational purpose - not just video games - have always been a large promoter of interest throughout history.
