How to find the Gender?

If the name is full ie if it includes both first name and last name, is it then possible to find the gender?

In English speaking countries, usually, but not always, the first name will give you a strong clue as to the person's gender. There are many names that are traditionally given only to boys, and others that are traditionally only given to girls. However, there are some names that are sometimes used for boys or girls, and other non-traditional names that aren't associated with either gender.

  • The last name will tell you nothing, as it is a family name shared by all members of the family.

In the US, you can generally guess the gender by the context and other things. For example:

Lt. Col. Sydney Chang.

Sydney can be a man or woman's name, but the military rank and the ethnic last name would strongly suggest a man rather than a woman.
