How to express time?

How do you say 1:50?
Can I say "It's ten to two"?
Doesn't this sound British? Americans would say "It's ten till two"?

In the US there are several ways of saying this, for example: "It's one-fifty." or "It's ten to two." or "It's ten till two." or "It's ten minutes to/till two." or "It's ten before two." or "It's ten minutes before two."

AM or PM is usually very obvious.
eg My class starts at two tomorrow.
eg Come for dinner at seven tomorrow.

I think I'd be most likely to say: It's one fifty.
